Generally speaking, Torii didn't like to use her father's name or money to get things, but co-signing on a business loan and on a commercial space lease wasn't exactly the same thing, and it was mostly because he'd already said he would even before she'd gone off to college. Housing, rental space to work in, whatever she needed. Which was partly because her siblings were incredibly self-sufficient and he had no one left to spoil -though he certainly tried regardless- and she'd agreed.

She'd been pulled down to Hawkins the prior winter break, when her usual winter break plans fell through and had decided that it was the right kind of weird to at least get herself a little bit of experience in and see if a clothing boutique was even what she wanted to do.

The shop was one of the storefronts on the main drag in 'downtown' Hawkins, one of the places that had emptied out when the mall moved in, and had stayed empty since. She'd gotten a good deal. The interior was more like a studio, open save for six or seven irregularly-placed pedestals with some of Torii's wilder OOAK pieces displayed on mannequins -most of them in non-standard poses- though everything that was on hangers on rolling racks scattered throughout was far from 'normal', most of it being from -or inspired by- the projects she'd turned in for her fashion design program.

The check-out counter was an old Ferris-wheel style jewelry case, mostly filled with accessories, brooches and earrings -some of them made of semiprecious gemstones with what appeared to be bites taken out of them- but there was also one entire bin of the display dedicated to life-sized clay sculpture hermit crabs using various skulls as shells, and snails of about the same size whose shells were things like paint buckets and Jack-o-lanterns and one that was a full replica of the Addams Family mansion.

The far end of the space was separated by a 'bead' curtain made of a rainbow of chenille worm-on-a-strings and on the other side of the curtain, what was essentially the 'back room' of the shop -about half the size of the operational front half- was jam packed with shelves and pull-out drawers and straight up bolts of fabric and spools of edging or rick-rack or ribbon, clearly where she did most of the actual work.

The a-frame chalkboard sign out front sometimes read Torii's Tailoring and sometimes read Wartooth Wearable Art, and the proprietor herself was a slight young woman with blonde hair generally pulled back via a banana or claw clip that revealed the spill of one bright color or another on the underside.

Torii's father was the rhythm guitarist of Dethklok a moderately well-known band of the late '60s/early '70s, they were a phenom of the time, and still have a reasonably stable fan base in certain circles. Her mother is an aerobics instructor and self-taught physical therapist.

Which is to say that Torii comes from money. Not one of The Wealthy Elite, but she's never had to worry about basically anything in her life. As much as she loves her dad, as she's grown, Torii doesn't want his name to open any doors for her that she wouldn't be able to open on her own merits and skills, which is why she uses her mom's last name.

She's got three siblings:
There's her sister the tattoo artist/mechanic/motorcycle enthusiast/world traveler
Her other sister the sustainable-living-is-totally-possible type (probably living on a commune somewhere)
Her brother who works for a Vague Yet Menacing Government Agency

Ostensibly so far the theory is that she met Will Byers in college (where she's majoring in fashion/costume design) because their friends groups overlapped, but honestly she could get patched in basically anywhere along the timeline.
